Detroit Free Press Marathon

After running the relay last year, I wanted to get back into the full marathon this year. Although my training miles were way below the recommended amount, I felt good with the improvements in my speed. I was running about 7:39 miles for the first 15 or so then the wheels came off. Times got slower and slower. It was all I could do to keep running, but I knew I had to finish. Getting around Belle Isle was tough. I just kept telling myself, "just make it off the island." I pushed on through Indian Village and down Lafayette to downtown where the crowds motivated me to the finish. Cuppa and Cody road their bikes down Lafayette with me. Their cheers and smiles meant a lot during that tough time. I didn't achieve my time goal, but set a PR. I know that to maintain speed through a marathon I will need to log those training miles. I'll be back next year.
